The Regional Meeting 2014 for Eastern & Southern Africa of the Swiss Water & Sanitation Consortium was held from 13 to 16 October 2014 at Sheshemene, Ethiopia.
The consortium, formed by eight Swiss NGOs and with its activities funded largely by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), started in the second half of 2014 its Phase II. Focusing on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) the consortium’s initiatives are located in 10 countries in three regions (Francophone Africa, Eastern & Southern Africa, South Asia).
A total of 24 people (19 men and 5 women) participated in the workshop, representing the four consortium members that are operational in the region: Caritas Switzerland, HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation, Solidar Suisse and HEKS, from three different countries: South Sudan, Mozambique, and Ethiopia. Furthermore, the Regional Consortium Advisors/WASH Unit from Caritas Nairobi, the Regional Coordinators from the other two regions, as well as the Consortium’s Knowledge Manager and the Coordinator from Switzerland attended the meeting.
The learning meeting provided a platform to exchange and discuss the results from Phase I and brief the consortium members and their partners about the implementation of their initiatives under Phase II. Being at the beginning of a new phase, emphasis was put on the establishment of a good baseline, which shall serve each projects throughout the phase and which with its joint, consolidated information will also form the base for the outcome and impact monitoring by the consortium across countries and regions.
The regional group will continue meeting and sharing their experiences on an annual base. In 2015, the group will meet in Mozambique.
